Sourcewell provides this substitute principal list as a public service to assist Minnesota Region 5 school districts and charter schools in identifying Minnesota licensed principals interested in short-term substitute principal opportunities. Region 5 includes the counties of Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena. View the list here.
- Licensed principals may voluntarily submit their information to Sourcewell by completing and submitting the registration form >
- Inclusion in this list does not guarantee employment or an assignment.

- Schools and districts may contact individuals on the list directly.
- Schools and districts are solely responsible for:
- Evaluating candidates.
- Conducting background checks, verifying the principal’s qualifications, and complying with all laws related to employment.

Principal substitute reimbursement
Schools and districts within Region 5 can request reimbursement for principal substitute expenses at a maximum of $1,000 per principal annually. Expenses can include:
- Substitute pay (a rate of $300/day is recommended)
- Background check fees for prospective principal substitutes
Eligible uses for the substitute reimbursement include substitutes needed for principals to participate in the following instructional leadership activities:
- Principal Nourishment
- Career Pathways Cohort days
- HRS trainings
- Continous Improvement Community of Practice sessions
- Leading for Learning cohort
- MnMTSS sessions
- COMPASS Pathways
- Regional Literacy Network meetings
- AVID Leadership sessions
- Catalyst Leadership Coaching training
- Classroom observations, walkthroughs, or instructional rounds with their District Strategy Partner
- Sourcewell facilitated regional site visits
